President Donald Trump has rejected criticism from right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson, who accused him of abandoning “America First” principles by supporting Israel’s military strikes on Iran.
Carlson, once a close Trump ally, condemned Israel’s preemptive attack and labeled the U.S. “complicit in the act of war.” He wrote, “Politicians purporting to be America First can’t now credibly turn around and say they had nothing to do with it.”
Responding in The Atlantic, Trump said he hadn’t seen Carlson’s remarks but defended his stance. “Well, considering that I’m the one that developed ‘America First,’ and considering that the term wasn’t used until I came along, I think I’m the one that decides that.”
He added, “For those people who say they want peace—you can’t have peace if Iran has a nuclear weapon.”
Trump also warned Iran not to provoke the U.S., stating any attack would be met with unprecedented force.
