Donald Trump has reversed his stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, declaring Ukraine can win with NATO support and urging stronger alliance action against Russian provocations.
US President Donald Trump has made a dramatic shift in his stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, declaring that Kyiv could “win all of Ukraine back in its original form” with support from Europe and NATO.
In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York, Trump said Russia was facing “BIG Economic trouble” and described it as a “paper tiger.” He added Ukraine could reclaim its “original borders from where this war started” and “maybe even go further than that.”
The comments mark a reversal from his earlier position that Ukraine would need to give up territory to end the war. In February, Trump had told Zelensky he did “not have the cards” to win against Moscow.
Zelensky hailed the shift as a “positive signal,” adding that “Trump and the US will be with us to the end of the war.”
Trump also urged NATO members to shoot down Russian aircraft violating their airspace, following recent incursions in Poland, Estonia, and Romania.
NATO condemned Moscow’s actions as “escalatory” and pledged to defend its members using “all necessary military and non-military tools.”
