President Trump said Christianity is under severe threat in Nigeria and placed the country on a U.S. religious freedom watch list.
President Donald Trump on Friday warned that Christianity is facing an “existential threat” in Nigeria as he announced the country’s addition to a U.S. State Department watch list.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
The president said Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and top oil producer, was being placed on the “Countries of Particular Concern” list for religious freedom violations. The list already includes China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia and Pakistan, according to the State Department.
Trump said he had directed U.S. Representatives Riley Moore and Tom Cole, along with the House Appropriations Committee, to investigate the matter and report back to him.
