President Donald Trump has accused major financial institutions of rejecting him due to political bias against conservatives. In a CNBC interview on Tuesday, Trump claimed JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America refused his business, alleging discrimination.
“They discriminate against many conservatives,” Trump said, revealing that JPMorgan once gave him “20 days to get out” of their system. He also said Bank of America rejected his attempt to open accounts after his presidency.
Trump stated he personally appealed to CEOs Jamie Dimon (JPMorgan) and Brian Moynihan (Bank of America), but both declined. “Brian was kissing my ass when I was president… then said, ‘We can’t do it,’” he claimed.
Bank of America declined comment but reiterated that “political beliefs are not a factor in account closure.” JPMorgan also denied political motivation and welcomed improved regulation.
A draft executive order targeting financial discrimination is reportedly under White House review, with possible signing this week, according to the Wall Street Journal.
