Donald Trump has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House following a secretive summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Trump described the talks as “great and very successful,” although no ceasefire was agreed.
Discussions reportedly included land swaps and NATO-style security guarantees for Ukraine, sparking concern among European officials who called the proposals “deeply disturbing” and a “clear win” for Russia.
Trump told Fox News: “The best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement.”
Zelensky confirmed Ukraine’s readiness for constructive cooperation, saying, “Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace.”
European diplomats and analysts, however, warned that Putin remained firm on territorial demands in eastern Ukraine.
Trump said a trilateral meeting with Zelensky and Putin could follow, with the aim of potentially saving millions of lives.
