Trump threatens to review Musk subsidies amid feud over spending bill

“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history… Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump suggested Tuesday that his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) should investigate subsidies received by Elon Musk’s companies, claiming it could save the U.S. government “BIG” money.

“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history… Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump’s remarks followed Musk’s fierce criticism of the president’s new tax-cut and spending bill. On X, Musk said: “I am literally saying CUT IT ALL. Now.”

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO had reignited the feud Saturday, calling the bill “utterly insane and destructive,” and on Monday urged voters to unseat lawmakers who supported it: “They should hang their heads in shame!… And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

Musk also called for a new political party: “Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people.”

The escalating rift has rattled Republicans worried about 2026 midterm prospects and driven volatility in Tesla shares, which briefly lost $150 billion in market value before rebounding.
