“We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon,” Trump said.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to sic what he called the “DOGE monster” on Elon Musk and suggested the Tesla founder could be deported, as their public feud escalated over an expensive spending bill.
Asked by Daily Mail about Musk’s citizenship status, Trump replied: “I don’t know. We’ll have to take a look. We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.”
The clash follows Musk’s vocal opposition to Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” which cuts electric vehicle subsidies while expanding the deficit. “He could lose a lot more than that,” Trump warned from the South Lawn. “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history… Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
Musk, a naturalized citizen born in South Africa, fired back online, threatening to form a new political party. “If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,” he wrote on X, vowing to unseat Republicans who back the legislation.
Their once-close alliance has deteriorated into a bitter, highly public feud.
