The planned meetings follow discussions between US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin in Moscow. On Wednesday, Trump said Witkoff had made “great progress” in the talks. “Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Russia had “expressed their desire to meet with President Trump,” adding he was open to meeting both leaders.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Trump could speak with Putin within two days and would decide on possible sanctions against Russia in the next 24–36 hours.
