President Donald Trump has reportedly requested that the Washington Commanders’ new $3.7 billion stadium in Washington, D.C., be named after him.

President Donald Trump wants the Washington Commanders’ planned $3.7 billion stadium in Washington, D.C., named after him, multiple sources told ESPN reporting.

According to a senior White House source, back-channel communications have been made with a member of the Commanders’ ownership group, led by Josh Harris, to convey Trump’s desire for the new domed stadium—under construction at the former RFK Stadium site—to bear his name.

“That would be a beautiful name, as it was President Trump who made the rebuilding of the new stadium possible,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in an email to ESPN. Leavitt declined further comment, but the source added, “It’s what the president wants, and it will probably happen.”

A Commanders spokesperson declined comment, but team sources confirmed preparations for Trump’s attendance at Sunday’s home game against the Detroit Lions as Harris’ guest. The Commanders own the stadium’s naming rights, though any final decision must involve the D.C. Council and the National Park Service.

In July, Trump threatened to block the stadium project unless the team restored its former “Redskins” name, dropped in 2020.

Despite Trump’s push, the Commanders’ new 65,000-seat stadium remains set for completion by 2030, marking what D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser described as “the largest economic development project in D.C. history.”
