In a Truth Social post, Trump warned the homeless: “The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital.”
President Donald Trump on Sunday signaled plans to intensify efforts to tackle crime in Washington, D.C., despite Justice Department data showing a decline in violent crime to a 30-year low in 2024.
In a Truth Social post, Trump warned the homeless: “The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital.” He linked the plan to his earlier crackdown on illegal immigration, writing, “It’s all going to happen very fast, just like the Border… This will be easier — Be prepared!”
Last month, Trump signed an executive order easing the removal of homeless individuals, drawing criticism from advocates. His latest remarks follow an attempted carjacking involving a former Department of Government Efficiency member.
The White House announced a weeklong push to counter crime, including more federal law enforcement in the city. Trump will address the media Monday at 10 a.m. on crime, cleanliness, and “the General Physical Renovation” of the capital.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser rejected his rhetoric, saying, “Any comparison to a war-torn country is hyperbolic and false.”
