Trump’s watch-list decision on Nigeria politically driven — Ahmad Gumi

Ahmad Gumi has described US President Donald Trump’s decision to place Nigeria on a religious persecution watch-list as politically motivated and linked to Nigeria’s 2027 elections.

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has alleged that US President Donald Trump’s decision to place Nigeria on a watch-list over alleged Christian genocide is politically motivated.

In a statement on his Facebook page on Saturday, Gumi said the move was driven by “unpatriotic bigot clerics” and external forces seeking to exploit Nigeria’s internal challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.

DAILY POST reports that Trump, on Friday, designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” following international calls to address alleged persecution of Christians — a claim repeatedly denied by the Nigerian government.

Reacting, Gumi wrote: “Nigeria under their evil eye of religious bigotry! It is evident now we are sharing a country not only with evil people from banditry, BH, IPOB and other criminals… we have many unpatriotic bigot clerics that are aiding imperialists to divide us further.”

He further argued that the United States had no business interfering in Nigeria’s internal affairs, stating, “At a time when Americans are lining up for food rations, what concerns them with our internal problems?… All the bluff is about 2027.”

Gumi also called for a review of Nigeria’s foreign policy, urging citizens to recognize “their real enemies.”
