Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, has demanded that his interview with British journalist Piers Morgan be aired in full to prevent distortion of Nigeria’s position on alleged Christian persecution.
According to a report from THECABLE, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has demanded a full and unedited airing of his interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, following his appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
Tuggar said the interview, which has yet to be released on Morgan’s YouTube channel, was intended to provide “a factual and contextual perspective on the misleading narratives and allegations of religious persecution in Nigeria.” He added that his statements, supported by “verifiable data,” might not have aligned with “certain preconceived views.”
“Nigeria’s truth must not be distorted to fit external biases,” Tuggar stated, explaining that his call for transparency in the interview’s release was in line with integrity and accountability principles.
The minister has been among top Nigerian officials challenging claims of Christian persecution in the country. During a recent meeting in Berlin with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, Tuggar stressed that it is “impossible” for the Nigerian government to persecute any citizen based on religion, citing constitutional guarantees of freedom of worship and the rule of law.
In April, the foreign affairs ministry released a report rejecting the “Christian genocide” narrative, calling it a “dangerous, single, linear narrative.”
Despite this, U.S. President Donald Trump re-designated Nigeria a “country of particular concern” on October 31.
