Turkey has alerted Nigerian authorities to the presence of the Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO) in Nigeria, warning it poses a serious security risk. Turkish Ambassador-designate Mehmet Poroy raised the alarm during a Democracy and National Unity Day dinner in Abuja, commemorating the failed July 15, 2016 coup in Türkiye. He noted that members of the Gülen movement, responsible for sponsoring the coup attempt, are still being apprehended globally and “the presence of such an organisation poses a threat to every country in which it operates.”

Ambassador Poroy added:

“Unfortunately, the FETO terrorist organisation still maintains its activities in Nigeria, particularly in the fields of education and healthcare. We consistently inform our Nigerian friends, and urge them to remain vigilant and cautious.”

He highlighted that despite Turkey’s international efforts to dismantle FETO networks, “the group’s international structures have not been fully dismantled globally.”
