Since May 2023, President Tinubu has taken several “working vacations” abroad, splitting time between official duties and personal rest in countries including the UK and France, sparking public debate.
President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips, blending official duties with personal time, have drawn scrutiny from critics and social media observers. Since May 29, 2023, Tinubu has embarked on at least five “working vacation” trips abroad.
These include a private rest in London in June 2023 after the Paris Financial Summit, extended stays in France following official visits to the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia in April 2024, and UK-France trips in October 2023 and 2024. In September 2025, he undertook another 10-day working vacation in France and the UK.
While the presidency describes these trips as part of his annual leave to reflect on reforms, opposition figures and commentators have questioned their timing amid domestic economic and political challenges. No full itinerary of official engagements has been disclosed for some of these visits.
