“Okoro is charged in a three-count indictment with naturalisation fraud,” officials said.
Omoyoma Christopher Okoro, a 51-year-old Nigerian-born U.S. citizen, has been charged with naturalisation fraud after concealing his criminal past during the citizenship process.
According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Okoro falsely answered “no” on his application when asked if he had ever committed a crime for which he was not arrested.
He naturalised in December 2018 but was later convicted in September 2024 of conspiracy to commit mail, wire, and bank fraud, along with additional fraud counts. The crimes, which occurred between 2008 and 2011, involved $80 million in fraudulent activities. He was sentenced to 100 months in prison and ordered to pay over $22 million in restitution.
“Okoro is charged in a three-count indictment with naturalisation fraud,” officials said. “If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison and revocation of citizenship.”
Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel P. Bubar stated, “We will continue to work tirelessly to hold individuals accountable for violating our nation’s laws.”
