A U.S.-based Nigerian diaspora group has criticized NIDCOM for organizing a “wasteful” Diaspora Day celebration while ignoring the plight of overseas investors affected by demolitions in Lagos.
The Association of Nigerians in Diaspora (ANDI), New York Chapter, has criticized the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) over the 2025 Diaspora Day celebration held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In a statement on Tuesday, ANDI President Otunba Oladipo Dada described the event as “tone-deaf and wasteful,” saying it ignored the pressing concerns of Nigerians abroad, especially those facing investment losses. “Rather than defending the interests of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s pro-investment agenda, NIDCOM has instead become preoccupied with awards and fanfare,” Dada said.
The group highlighted the illegal demolition of diaspora-owned WINHOMES Estate in Okun Ajah as a key grievance and slammed NIDCOM’s silence on the matter as a betrayal.
Calling the celebration a misuse of resources and an insult to aggrieved investors, ANDI demanded a federal investigation, restitution, and policy reforms to protect diaspora investments.
It reaffirmed its commitment to advocate for justice, accountability, and meaningful inclusion of Nigerians abroad.
