In an update on its website on Monday, DOGE announced that the Foundation has cancelled $84,059 earmarked for “a business incubator for spa & wellness entrepreneurs in Nigeria.”
The U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) has terminated a $84,059 grant for a Nigerian business incubator focused on spa and wellness entrepreneurs, the Department of Government Efficiency(DOGE) announced.
The Foundation, which has invested $117 million in over 1,000 African SMEs in five years, did not specify the cancellation reason.
In a separate update, DOGE stated that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio ended diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) metrics in Foreign Service evaluations, calling it a return to merit-based assessments. Previously, diplomats were scored on DEI compliance, including promoting gender-neutral language and racial quotas in embassy events. Rubio praised the move, saying, “Now our incredible Foreign Service Officers will be evaluated on true merit, not on arbitrary immutable characteristics.”
The changes follow criticism of DEI policies under the last administration, which tied 20% of performance reviews to such criteria.
