The U.S. State Department has begun evacuating American citizens from Israel amid ongoing conflict with Iran.

Ambassador Mike Huckabee confirmed on Saturday that assisted departure flights were underway, urging U.S. citizens and lawful residents in Israel and the West Bank to complete a crisis intake form.

Confusion had surrounded U.S. evacuation efforts earlier in the week. On June 18, Huckabee said the U.S. Embassy was aiding Americans with flights and cruise departures, but the State Department later said there was “no announcement” on private evacuations.

A day later, the embassy notified enrollees in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program that departure planning was in progress and asked those interested to fill out a form. Meanwhile, Ben Gurion Airport remains closed, and commercial airlines have paused flights.

Alternate evacuations included 1,500 people aboard a cruise ship to Cyprus and charter flights organized by nonprofits and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Others crossed into Jordan by land.

A U.S. official confirmed several Americans were lightly wounded in an Iranian missile strike. President Trump is weighing possible U.S. military action against Iran within two weeks, calling it a “last shot” at diplomacy.
