Some Nigerians in New York have urged the Federal Government to address the growing insecurity and killings in the country following U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments on alleged religious persecution.

Some Nigerians residing in New York, United States, have called on the Federal Government to respond to concerns raised by U.S. President Donald Trump over alleged “religious persecution” and killings of Christians in Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview, Agnes Omotoso, a Nigerian who has lived in the U.S. for 37 years, said the killings and insecurity in the country were worrisome. “This is a concern not only for me and other Nigerians here but also U.S. citizens generally. The Nigerian government should address the issue, which has become a concern to us all, not the person making the accusations,’’ she said.

Similarly, Martins Obor, a U.S.-based security professional, urged the Federal Government to “live up to the expectations of Nigerians by protecting their lives.” He warned that the issue could “lead to sanctions on the country.”

Another Nigerian resident, who requested anonymity, noted that “even U.S. citizens who are not Nigerian are praying for an end to the killings.”

The group emphasized that the government must take swift action to restore peace and public confidence.
