U.S. warns Nigerian students: Skipping classes may cost you your Visa

“If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked.”

The United States government has issued a fresh warning to international students, including Nigerians, cautioning that skipping classes or abandoning academic programmes without notifying their institutions could result in immediate visa cancellation.

The advisory was shared on Monday via the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.

“If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future U.S. visas,” the statement read.

In support, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) also warned visa holders to comply strictly with the terms of their entry. “Any violation of immigration or other laws may result in visa revocation or deportation,” NIS stated.

This comes after the U.S. revised its visa policy, reducing most nonimmigrant visa durations to single-entry, three-month permits. The U.S. also now screens for “birth tourism” and can deny visas if childbirth appears to be the travel intent.
