Travel agents say the latest move will further reduce Nigerian traffic to Dubai, a top destination for business and tourism.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced fresh visa restrictions targeting Nigerian travellers, including a ban on transit visa applications.

According to directives sent to travel agents on Tuesday, Daily Trust learnt that Nigerians aged 18 to 45 travelling alone are now ineligible for tourist visas.

“For Nigeria nationals, please bear in mind that an applicant aged 18 to 45 years travelling alone is not eligible for TOURIST VISA CATEGORY,” the notice stated.

Those aged 45 and above must present a personal bank statement for six months, with each month’s balance showing at least $10,000 or its naira equivalent.

The new rules come barely a year after Nigeria and the UAE resolved a two-year visa ban, which itself carried strict conditions.

Travel agents say the latest move will further reduce Nigerian traffic to Dubai, a top destination for business and tourism.

Industry observers warn the policy could strain bilateral relations and hurt travel-dependent businesses.
