The UK has expanded trade opportunities for Nigerian exporters under its Developing Countries Trading Scheme, with nearly 3,000 products now enjoying zero or reduced tariffs.

The United Kingdom (UK) has announced that nearly 3,000 Nigerian products now qualify for zero and reduced tariffs under its Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), introduced in 2023.

UK Head of Trade Policy for Nigeria, Ms. Mujina Kaindama, made this known at the UK DCTS Roadshow in Kano, explaining that the scheme simplifies rules of origin and improves access to UK markets.

Kaindama said the initiative equips Nigerian exporters with practical guidance to expand their trade footprint with expert support.

Dr. Adiya Ode of Propcon+ described Northern Nigeria’s agricultural output as key to unlocking export potential, while Mrs. Orji Gertrude, Director at the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, said both governments are collaborating to ensure Nigerian businesses benefit from the DCTS.

The event was organised by Propcon+, in partnership with the Kano State Government and the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment.
