A Nigerian man on trial in the UK for rape allegedly worked illegally as a nightclub security guard under a false identity, a London court has heard.
A 47-year-old Nigerian man, Morenikeji Adewale, is on trial at Southwark Crown Court for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman near the Heaven nightclub in London last November.
The court heard Adewale was in the UK on a tourist visa that barred employment. Prosecutors say he used a fake name—Olusola Julius Alabi—to secure a nightclub security job. His true identity was revealed through fingerprint evidence after his arrest. He has admitted to possessing false ID documents.
The alleged victim, a Christian woman, was said to be heavily intoxicated. Jurors were reminded that under UK law, consent cannot be given if a person is too drunk.
Adewale claims the woman initiated contact, calling him “handsome” and asking for water. He admitted to sexual activity but denied penetration, claiming he stopped after learning her age.
When asked about the fake identity, he told officers, “That’s the name people call me at my work.”
