Dr. Suhail Anjum, a UK anesthesiologist, is facing a medical panel hearing after allegedly leaving a gallbladder surgery midway in 2023 to have sex with a nurse, then returning to complete the procedure.
A doctor has appeared before a UK medical panel following allegations that he abandoned an operation in 2023 to engage in a sexual encounter with a nurse in another operating room. The hearing will determine whether 44-year-old Dr. Suhail Anjum is fit to continue practising medicine in the country.
The incident reportedly took place at Tameside Hospital in Manchester during a gallbladder removal surgery. Dr. Anjum allegedly asked a colleague to monitor the patient, citing a “comfort break”, before leaving mid-operation to meet the nurse.
After about eight minutes away, during which another nurse discovered him and the unnamed nurse in a “compromising position”, Dr. Anjum is said to have returned and completed the operation. He has not denied the allegations, admitting his conduct was “inexcusable” and attributing some of the strain to personal difficulties since his daughter was born prematurely.
The panel is scheduled to hear further testimony to assess whether he should be allowed to return to medical practice.
