Aspiring Nigerian teachers eyeing relocation to the UK now have streamlined requirements to secure Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), particularly in high-demand STEM and modern foreign language subjects. The UK Department for Education mandates a valid passport, a Level 6 teaching qualification (or a separate bachelor’s degree), and proof of English proficiency via an approved test or English-taught degree. Applicants must submit certificates, transcripts, and a Letter of Professional Standing from Nigeria’s Teachers Registration Council (TRCN), including their license, ID, and teaching references. “The TRCN must send these documents directly to the UK Department for Education,” the guidelines state. The move aims to address teacher shortages in key subjects while ensuring qualified professionals meet UK standards.
