The UK Charity Commission has frozen the assets of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Ministries International, including over 100 bank accounts, following an inquiry that cited a lack of central trustee oversight and alleged financial mismanagement.
The United Kingdom’s Charity Commission has frozen the assets, including over 100 bank accounts, of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Ministries International due to concerns over transparency and alleged misappropriation of funds, a report published Monday revealed.
The commission’s inquiry found that trustees could not demonstrate adequate oversight of more than 100 bank accounts operated by MFM’s branches, a situation that created “substantial risks to charitable funds.”
The commission stated: “Many of the charity’s financial issues stemmed from its complex structure, which had grown from a handful of branches to over 90 locations nationwide, without the corresponding governance improvements.”
Branch offices were reportedly operating autonomously, making major financial decisions without central approval. The report also noted: “Additionally, branch offices were making significant financial decisions, including property purchases and lease agreements, without trustee knowledge or authorisation.”
As a result of these findings, the commission took action to “freeze the charity’s assets to prevent further loss.” MFM’s spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
