UK and US envoys have commended Nigeria’s NSA Nuhu Ribadu and security forces after the arrest of two wanted Ansaru leaders, describing it as a major victory against terrorism.
The United Kingdom and the United States have commended Nigerian security forces for the arrest of two senior leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group.
UK Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, hailed the successful operation coordinated by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, describing it as “an extraordinary and significant success.” He congratulated the security agencies for what he called “a major step forward in the fight against terrorism.”
The US Mission in Nigeria also lauded the arrests of Mahmud Muhammad Usman, known as Abu Bara’a, and Mahmud al-Nigeri, alias Malam Mamuda, saying: “This is a significant forward in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and extremism.”
Ribadu had earlier disclosed that the suspects, long on Nigeria’s wanted list, were captured after intelligence-led operations between May and July. The duo have been linked to the 2022 Kuje prison break, the 2013 uranium facility attack in Niger Republic, and multiple kidnappings, including that of French engineer Francis Collomp.
