Ukrainian intelligence agents have killed suspected Russian FSB operatives believed responsible for the recent assassination of a senior Ukrainian officer
Ukrainian intelligence agents have killed suspected Russian FSB operatives believed responsible for the recent assassination of a senior Ukrainian officer, the SBU said on Sunday. The suspects, allegedly involved in the killing of SBU Colonel Ivan Voronych in Kyiv last Thursday, were targeted during a special operation. “This morning a special operation was conducted, during which the members of the Russian FSB’s agent cell started to resist, and therefore they were liquidated,” the SBU stated via Telegram.
The SBU identified a man and a woman as suspects but did not specify how many were killed in the operation. The agency claimed the pair were instructed by a handler to monitor Voronych before receiving coordinates to a hidden location where they retrieved a pistol with a suppressor. After attempting to “lay low,” they were located by Ukrainian forces. Since Russia’s 2022 invasion, the SBU has expanded its role in covert actions, including targeted assassinations.
