“We use active defense tactics: thanks to such actions, our soldiers restored a total of 115 positions within a month,” Syrskyi said during his briefing.

Ukraine’s military reclaimed 115 battlefield positions from Russian forces in April, Commander in Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi announced Thursday.

“We use active defense tactics: thanks to such actions, our soldiers restored a total of 115 positions within a month,” Syrskyi said during his briefing.

He credited the gains to Ukraine’s growing use of homegrown long-range drones, which struck 62 targets in Russia. “We are destroying military facilities and undermining the capabilities of the aggressor’s military-industrial complex,” he added.

The Institute for the Study of War confirmed Moscow has struggled in key areas, with no progress recorded in Sumy and continued resistance in Donetsk, particularly Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka. While Russia regained much of the Kursk territory seized last year, Ukraine has made new advances. Kyiv’s drone initiative, launched in February, aims to produce 30,000 drones by year’s end.

Meanwhile, Washington has signed a mineral rights deal with Ukraine, paving the way for fresh U.S. military aid.
