UNILAG Alumni Association President, Ifeoluwa Oyedele, has urged ASUU to suspend its ongoing strike and return to classrooms as the association celebrated its 55th anniversary in Lagos.
The President of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Alumni Association, Ifeoluwa Oyedele, has appealed to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to suspend their ongoing industrial action and resume classes.
Mr Oyedele made the appeal on Friday during the association’s 55th Anniversary Awards and Recognition Dinner held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. He urged the striking lecturers to “go back to class,” stressing that “there was no problem that could not be solved.”
ASUU had embarked on a two-week strike over issues of pay and funding, just weeks after universities resumed a new academic session.
Speaking on the association’s achievements, Mr Oyedele highlighted major projects including the Erastus Akingbola Postgraduate Hall, the Alumni Shopping Complex, and the Alumni Garden at the College of Medicine, Idi Araba.
He also unveiled two new innovations — a digital alumni engagement app and a bottom-up administrative approach — to enhance transparency and inclusivity among members.
Oyedele further disclosed plans to construct a 1,800-bed student hostel within the UNILAG campus before the end of the year and introduce annual prizes for excellence in character and service.
UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, commended the alumni body for its sustained partnership with the university, assuring that the collaboration “will continue to strengthen in the years ahead.”
