A female student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Deborah Sam-Praise Ememem, 22, was murdered in a hotel by fellow student Emmanuel Gambo, 22, over a dispute concerning N15,000 demanded for a second round of sex after an initial N5,000 payment.

According to Enugu State Police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect, a second-year Material and Metallurgical Engineering student, strangled the victim on June 15, 2025, in a hotel room in Obukpa, Nsukka. He wrapped her body in a towel and curtain, hiding it under the bed. The decomposing body was discovered on June 16 after staff noticed a foul smell.

“The suspect had provided false identification, which initially hindered arrest,” Ndukwe stated. He was apprehended on July 2 and confessed during interrogation. The victim’s iPhone, tablet, and earbuds were recovered.

Commissioner Mamman Bitrus Giwa commended detectives and urged youth to avoid social vices and negative influences.
