“Today, people openly working against the PDP are still being tolerated. “Someone like Wike, who claims to love the PDP but is clearly undermining it, should be expelled by the NWC. Why hasn’t that happened?
PDP chieftain and former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido has vowed to abstain from party activities unless FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and ex-Benue Governor Samuel Ortom are expelled for anti-party activities.
The former Foreign Affairs Minister, who sits on PDP’s NEC and BoT, cited the leaders’ alleged sabotage during the 2023 elections as grounds for dismissal. Drawing parallels to his 1990s expulsion of Arthur Nzeribe from SDP, Lamido lamented PDP’s weakened discipline: “The party was supreme in our time… Today, people undermining PDP are tolerated.”
“Someone like Wike claims to love PDP but clearly undermines it,” Lamido told journalists. “Why hasn’t the NWC expelled him? Ortom endorsed Obi yet remains on BoT.” The stalwart declared he won’t attend meetings until the party takes action, though he remains a member.
The ultimatum escalates PDP’s internal crisis, with pro-Wike factions likely to resist the demands. Analysts warn the standoff could deepen rifts ahead of 2027 elections.
