For the first time, applicants filing Form I-589 for asylum must pay a $100 fee.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will begin enforcing new immigration fees from July 22, 2025, impacting applicants across various categories, including asylum, parole, and Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
The adjustments, outlined in a Federal Register notice dated July 18, follow the new U.S. law, H.R. 1.
“The fees are non-waivable and must accompany all benefit requests submitted on or after July 22,” USCIS stated. Applications postmarked after August 21 without the appropriate payment will be rejected.
For the first time, applicants filing Form I-589 for asylum must pay a $100 fee. A new $100 Annual Asylum Fee will also apply to unresolved cases. Employment Authorization Document (EAD) applications will cost $550 initially and $275 for renewals. A reduced $275 EAD fee applies for those seeking re-parole through Form I-131.
Other changes include a $250 fee for Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) cases and a TPS registration fee increase from $50 to $500. USCIS emphasized these charges are in addition to existing fees and cannot be waived or reduced through Form I-912. EAD validity will now depend on specific immigration categories.
