“Those who commit visa fraud will be banned from the United States for life,” the US Mission in Nigeria said in a statement.
The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a stern warning to Nigerians, stating it will prosecute and permanently ban those who commit visa fraud or harbor illegal aliens. “Those who commit visa fraud will be banned from the United States for life,” it declared via its official X handle.
The Embassy clarified that visa expiration does not determine stay duration in the U.S., urging travelers to consult their I-94 for accurate information.
Meanwhile, Americans in Nigeria were warned to comply with Nigerian immigration directives as the federal government enforces stricter penalties on visa overstays from August 1. Affected individuals have until July 31 to regularize their status via Nigeria’s online amnesty portal.
Nigeria’s Ministry of Interior announced a $15 daily surcharge for visa overstays, with extended penalties including five-year and 10-year re-entry bans depending on duration.
The embassy emphasized the streamlined digital system for stay permit applications, saying it will “eliminate long queues and in-person visits.”
