Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, will preside over the Mass, which will be concelebrated by Patriarchs, Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, and priests from around the world. “The Eucharistic celebration will conclude with the Ultima commendatio and the Valedictio,” the statement read.
Following the Mass, Pope Francis’ body will be taken into St. Peter’s Basilica before being entombed in the Basilica of St. Mary Major. Ahead of the funeral, his coffin will be transported from the Casa Santa Marta chapel to St. Peter’s Basilica. The ceremony is expected to draw global religious leaders and mourners.
