A young boy who went viral ahead of the 2023 general elections for standing in front of the convoy of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is reportedly languishing in the Kirikiri Prison, Lagos State.
The young boy who gained national attention in 2023 after standing before Peter Obi’s campaign convoy is now detained at Kirikiri Prison, Lagos, over disputed theft and public fighting charges. According to activists, he was arrested by neighbors after returning from work, with supporters alleging the accusations are retaliatory for his perceived “entitlement” after receiving election-season gifts.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has taken up the case, with the next hearing scheduled for April 28. An X user (@Hausa_girl) revealed: “We attended his court hearing… the DPP hasn’t given legal advice.” Activist Omoyele Sowore has demanded urgent intervention, posting: “Immediate rescue efforts are necessary… notify us if you access his lawyers.”
Eyewitnesses claim the boy knows his accusers, including “the one who stole his phone.” The Orege Magistrate Court awaits prosecution guidance while the boy remains incarcerated. Critics argue his detention reflects systemic injustice, with one commentator stating: “He’s just a victim of public perception.”
