Nigerians are increasingly exploring Germany, Australia, and Portugal as relocation destinations due to friendlier visa schemes and affordable residency options.

As visa rejections rise and relocation costs increase, Nigerians seeking to “japa” are turning to countries outside the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Vanguard reports that Germany, Australia, and Portugal are emerging as attractive alternatives due to their visa-friendly policies and opportunities.

Germany offers a Job Seeker Visa, allowing professionals six months to secure employment, alongside affordable student options and post-study work pathways. The country’s demand for skilled workers in IT, engineering, and healthcare strengthens its appeal.

Australia’s points-based immigration system favors young, skilled applicants in high-demand fields such as nursing, teaching, IT, and construction. The Temporary Graduate Visa also supports international students seeking work experience.

Portugal provides flexible entry routes through its D7 Visa for remote workers and passive income earners, as well as the Golden Visa for investors. With a lower cost of living and a five-year residency-to-citizenship pathway, it is fast becoming a preferred relocation choice.
