WAEC expressed deep regret for any inconvenience caused to the affected candidates

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has issued a formal apology over technical issues affecting the recently released 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates.

In a statement released on Thursday, August 7, by the Ag. Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, WAEC acknowledged that new anti-malpractice measures, including paper serialisation, led to unexpected technical glitches. The method, applied to key subjects like Mathematics, English, Biology, and Economics, was said to have impacted the accuracy of some scores.

Following an internal review, WAEC announced a temporary suspension of result access via its online portal to correct the identified errors. The council assured candidates that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our candidates and the public as we work diligently to correct this matter,” the statement read. “WAEC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes.”
