The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched an investigation into the leak of the 2025 WASSCE English Language paper, which circulated online four days before the exam.

WAEC admitted logistical delays and blamed the disruption on security concerns and efforts to curb malpractice. The police have also begun probing suspected insider involvement.

Students in Lagos, Ogun, Taraba, and Osun wrote the exam as late as midnight under torchlight due to power outages. Videos of the chaotic conditions sparked outrage online.

“We apologise for the delay,” WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, stated, citing “logistical and sociocultural issues.”

Sources within WAEC revealed some staff worked 48 hours non-stop to reprint papers.

A suspected syndicate allegedly made millions from selling the leaked questions online. “One platform had over 80,000 subscribers… We’re tracing payments,” an insider said.

Parents under the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria have demanded a re-sit. “WAEC is not fair to the students,” said Ajayi Ademola, a concerned father.

Candidates echoed fears of mass failure. “I was under stress… our brains were already hot,” lamented student Olamide Adefowope.

Stakeholders, including ANCOPPS and NAPPS, have called for WAEC to adopt Computer-Based Testing to prevent future malpractice.

  1. Waec should not bother about the resit, they should just give them bonus Marks to apologize for their mistakes. That kind of stress is not good for the emotional well-being of the students.
