“Candidates sponsored by indebted states will not access results until full payment,” WAEC announced.

LAGOS — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2025 WASSCE results, while withholding results of candidates sponsored by states with unpaid registration fees and those involved in malpractice.

At a press conference on Monday, Amos Dangut, WAEC’s Nigeria National Office head, revealed that results of 192,089 candidates, or 9.75%, were withheld for alleged malpractice, down from 11.92% in 2024.

He expressed concern over a 33.8% drop in the number of candidates who obtained credits in five subjects including English and Mathematics.

“In spite of this improvement, WAEC expresses serious concern over the persistent use of mobile phones in examination halls and the growing instances of organised cheating,” he said.

Of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat the exam, 1,517,517 had their results fully processed. Affected candidates will be notified through their schools.

Candidates can access results via [www.waecdirect.org](http://www.waecdirect.org), using their exam ID PIN. Digital certificates will be available within 48 hours.

Dangut urged defaulting state governments to settle debts promptly, warning that affected students would otherwise remain unable to access their results.
