“The nation looks forward to welcoming our champions. Congratulations! Nigeria celebrates you.”

President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigerian Super Falcons following their remarkable victory in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final. The team secured a historic tenth continental title on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Rabat, defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 after overturning a two-goal first-half deficit.

Speaking to the squad via video call, President Tinubu praised the players, coaches, and officials for their outstanding performance. “I’m very proud of you. The entire nation is proud of you. You lifted our spirits,” he said, promising a grand celebration upon their return.

Tinubu singled out captain Rasheedat Ajibade and forward Esther Okoronkwo, who converted a crucial penalty. “I watched the penalty kick, that’s a very courageous exercise, God bless you,” he remarked. He also encouraged the team to enjoy their victory and maintain their health.

Ahead of the final, the government sent a delegation comprising key ministers and sports officials to support the Falcons. The team’s resilience was evident in the second half, sparked by Okoronkwo’s penalty, followed by Folashade Florence Ijamilusi’s equalizer and Jennifer Echegini’s late winner.
