The FDA announced recalls of shrimp from Walmart and other distributors after radioactive Cesium-137 was detected in imports from Indonesia.

Two U.S. distributors have recalled shrimp products after federal officials detected possible radioactive contamination.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said customs agents discovered the isotope Cesium-137 in containers from Indonesian firm PT Bahari Makmur Sejati, known as BMS Foods, at ports in Los Angeles, Houston, Miami and Savannah.

Beaver Street Fisheries, LLC of Jacksonville, Florida, recalled Great Value frozen shrimp sold at Walmart in 13 states, including Texas, Florida and Ohio. On Thursday, Southwind Foods, LLC of California recalled Sand Bar, Arctic Shores, Best Yet, Great American Seafood Imports Co. and First Street shrimp brands distributed in nine states.

The FDA stressed that “no shrimp products that tested positive or alerted for Cesium-137 have entered the U.S. food supply.” Consumers are advised to return or discard recalled items.

BMS Foods is under an FDA import ban until contamination issues are resolved.
