The Enugu government has accused Sujimoto CEO Olasijibomi Ogundele of N5.7 billion fraud over abandoned school projects, as the EFCC declared him wanted.
ENUGU — The Enugu State Government has accused Olasijibomi Ogundele, Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, of defrauding the state of N5.7 billion meant for the construction of 22 smart green schools.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared Ogundele wanted on Friday for alleged diversion of funds and money laundering.
Hours later, a video surfaced online showing the developer in tears, denying wrongdoing. “I’m not a thief, I’m not a fugitive,” Ogundele said, blaming inflation and security threats for project delays.
However, Enugu’s Commissioner for Information, Malachy Agbo, dismissed the video as “theatrics and crocodile tears,” alleging Ogundele executed a “premeditated fraud.”
According to him, Ogundele presented a Jaiz Bank bond to secure the N11.4 billion contract awarded on July 2, 2024, but diverted payments into a Zenith Bank account to shield Jaiz from liability.
Agbo said the government paid N5.7 billion upfront to fast-track work, but inspections revealed “minimal to no significant work” on most sites one year later. He accused Ogundele of abandoning sites, ignoring calls, and failing to attend project briefings. “None of his sites met the structural integrity of the projects,” Agbo said, adding that the projects have since been reassigned.
“The Enugu State Government will surely recover every penny of Ndi Enugu obtained by Olasijibomi Ogundele,” Agbo vowed.
