Victor Osimhen scored twice as Nigeria defeated Gabon 4–1 in extra time to advance to the next playoff stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
According to a report from PUNCH, the Super Eagles secured a 4–1 victory over Gabon on Thursday at Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco, to qualify for the next playoff stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
After a goalless first half, Akor Adams opened the scoring early in the second half before Gabon equalised four minutes from time, forcing the match into extra time. Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead with a calm finish, while Victor Osimhen sealed the win with two late goals.
Nigeria’s defence, marshalled by Benjamin Frederick and Calvin Bassey, held firm against Gabon’s late surge.
The victory places Nigeria among the top runners-up in the African qualifiers, following an earlier 4–0 triumph over Benin Republic, where Osimhen netted a hat-trick.
Gabon, who finished second in Group F behind Ivory Coast, will miss out on the final playoff. The Super Eagles are now set to face either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo on November 16, with the winner advancing to the intercontinental playoff for a World Cup berth.
