Tinubu declared his government inherited “near-insolvent public finances, chaotic foreign exchange systems and unsustainable subsidies,” likening them to “economic monsters.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during a two-day working visit to Anambra State, outlined key economic gains of his administration while acknowledging the tough but necessary reforms underway.

Speaking in Awka as a guest of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Tinubu declared his government inherited “near-insolvent public finances, chaotic foreign exchange systems and unsustainable subsidies,” likening them to “economic monsters.”

“But like we tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos, we have also begun to wrestle down these monsters,” he said.

The President pointed to early signs of recovery—rising small business activity, tech innovation, and agricultural growth—especially in the Southeast. Commending Anambra’s progress, he urged collaboration for “an inclusive economy.”

He inaugurated several projects, including the Emeka Anyaoku Institute at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, where he hailed the diplomat as a “great Nigerian” and called for renewed investment in education.

Traditional rulers conferred on Tinubu the title Dikesinmba Anambra (Strong Man from Another Land), to which he responded: “I feel honoured… Give me land to build my retirement home.”

Governor Soludo endorsed Tinubu for a second term, while Ohanaeze Ndigbo presented a wish-list for further federal support.
