A helicopter flyover near Soso Soberekon’s home caused panic among residents who mistook it for a US military incursion amid tensions over President Donald Trump’s threat to invade Nigeria.
Music executive Soso Soberekon has described a tense incident in his neighborhood after a helicopter flew over his compound, causing residents to flee in fear, according to Naija News reporting.
Soberekon shared the experience on his Instagram story, explaining that the loud sound and low flight of the helicopter caused panic among those nearby, who believed American soldiers had arrived in Nigeria following recent international tensions.
He wrote: “Helicopter fly pass my compound today, everybody run enter house. We think say American soldiers don come already.”
His comments came shortly after US President Donald Trump threatened military action in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians by radical Islamists. Trump announced that he had directed the US military to prepare for possible intervention and declared that Nigeria would be listed as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
Trump further warned that America might “go in guns blazing” and suspend aid to Nigeria if the violence continued.
The Nigerian government has since dismissed the allegations, describing them as “misleading and exaggerated,” emphasizing that the insecurity in the country affects both Christians and Muslims and is driven by terrorism, banditry, and farmer-herder clashes rather than religion.
