A new crowdsourced report reveals over 8,000 UFO sightings across the U.S. since 2022, with 422 specifically describing mysterious metallic orbs—often observed near military installations—that hover silently and move at extreme speeds, leaving the Pentagon’s investigation office struggling to explain them.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mysterious metallic orbs have been spotted hovering over the United States in recent years, baffling military officials and sparking a new wave of UFO reports. A new report from the crowdsourced platform Enigma reveals over 8,000 UFO sightings across the country between December 2022 and June 2025, with 422 reports specifically describing these metallic spheres.

The report notes that the majority of these sightings occurred between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., often near military installations in New York, California, and Arizona. Eyewitnesses, including civilians and military personnel, describe seeing the objects hover silently before moving at extreme speeds and vanishing without a trace.

The Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) has been tasked with investigating these claims, but despite dismissing many as explainable phenomena like balloons or drones, some cases have remained unsolved due to a lack of data. Of the 757 cases reviewed in AARO’s annual report, 21 sightings were classified as unresolved.

These sightings are not limited to the U.S. Similar orbs have been documented globally, and pilots during World War II even reported seeing them. While some theories suggest the orbs could be advanced surveillance devices from foreign powers, the sheer number of unexplained reports continues to challenge conventional explanations, leaving the Pentagon scrambling to identify the source of these mysterious incursions into U.S. airspace.
