WhatsApp has surpassed 3 billion monthly users, solidifying its dominance in global messaging, according to Meta’s Q1 earnings report via TechCrunch.

The platform remains the primary communication tool in many regions, outpacing competitors like Signal, iMessage, Telegram, and Google RCS.

Meta CFO Susan Li highlighted WhatsApp’s role in the company’s AI ecosystem. “We see people engage with Meta AI from several different entry points. WhatsApp continues to see the strongest Meta AI usage across our family of apps,” she said.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg added, “We hope to become the leader over time [in the U.S. messaging market]… the Meta AI app as a standalone is going to be particularly important.”

Despite privacy concerns over AI integration, Meta allows users to block AI access to specific chats. The company appears committed to deeper AI integration, with the WhatsApp AI button now prominently featured in the app.
