A new U.S.-China deal grants Americans majority control of TikTok, including oversight of its algorithm and data privacy.

The White House on Saturday revealed further details of a deal that gives the U.S. sweeping control over TikTok, including majority American ownership and authority over the platform’s algorithm.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News’ Saturday in America that six Americans will sit on the seven-member board controlling the app in the U.S., while Oracle will oversee its data and privacy. “This deal does put America first,” Leavitt said. “This deal means that TikTok will be majority-owned by Americans in the United States.”

President Donald Trump said on Friday that the board will consist of “very well-known people, very famous people actually, financially,” emphasizing that all are Americans. Leavitt added that the administration is “100% confident that a deal is done,” pending final signatures.
