Jamiu Abiola, son of the late MKO Abiola, has debunked claims that President Bola Tinubu or his mother supported the annulment of the June 12, 1993, election. Speaking to PUNCH, Jamiu described the allegation by ex-Governor Sule Lamido as “insulting” to Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji’s legacy, noting she even petitioned Babangida to reverse the annulment.

“Tinubu was vocal and visible from the beginning. As a senator, he condemned the annulment and supported protests,” Jamiu said.

He added Tinubu’s home was bombed, he went into exile, and helped fund and coordinate resistance through NADECO and NALICON. “He didn’t sit on the fence,” he stressed.

Jamiu also praised Tinubu’s long-standing support for democratic values, citing his opposition to a third-term agenda and governance reforms in Lagos.

“Tinubu continues to honour those who paid the price for democracy. He is the right person to lead Nigeria now,” Jamiu concluded.
